Matthew Beelen, MD

Faculty

Dr. Beelen graduated from the University of Michigan Medical School and completed his family medicine residency at Lancaster General Hospital in 2002. He completed faculty development fellowships at Lancaster General Health and Michigan State University. Dr. Beelen completed a geriatric fellowship in 2005 and has a Certificate of Additional Qualifications in Geriatrics. He is past director of the Geriatric Fellowship Program.

Dr. Beelen serves as the geriatric liaison to the Lancaster General Hospital Trauma Department, and is the medical director for the LG Health Alzheimer’s and Memory Care Program. His clinical and academic interests include: comprehensive geriatric assessment, inpatient geriatric consultation, geriatric trauma, dementia, delirium, and geriatric curriculum development.

Elyse N. Goveia, MD

Faculty

Elyse N. Goveia, MD, is a geriatric medicine physician with LG Health Physicians Geriatrics. A graduate of the University of Vermont College of Medicine, Dr. Goveia completed her residency and fellowship at Lancaster General Hospital.

Holly Heitmann, MSW

Faculty

Holly graduated from the Pennsylvania State University with a B.S. in Human Development and Family Studies. She went on to receive a Master of Social Work from the University of California, Los Angeles, with an emphasis on health and aging. She has practiced medical social work in multiple settings including inpatient geriatric psychiatry, post-acute brain injury rehabilitation, home health, and geriatric outpatient care. She currently collaborates with physicians in completing comprehensive geriatric assessments and integrates the principles of patient-and family-centered care into the geriatric fellowship curriculum.

S. Estella Horwath, MD

DIRECTOR, GERIATRIC MEDICINE FELLOWSHIP PROGRAM

S. Estella Horwath, MD, is a geriatric medicine physician with LG Health Physicians Geriatrics. A graduate of Drexel University College of Medicine, Dr. Horwath completed her residency at Virginia Commonwealth University and a fellowship at Lancaster General Hospital.

Dale K. Hursh, MD, CMD

Faculty

Dr. Hursh received his Doctor of Medicine degree from Jefferson Medical College, Philadelphia in 1989. He finished his family medicine residency at Lancaster General Hospital in 1992, and practiced primary care medicine in Lancaster County until 2001. Dr. Hursh then completed a geriatric fellowship at Lancaster General Health in 2002, and has his Certificate of Additional Qualifications in Geriatrics. He is also a certified medical director.

Dr. Hursh’s clinical interests include geriatric long-term care medicine, medical direction in long-term care, and medical education. He currently serves as the Medical Director for Landis Homes Retirement Community in Lititz, PA.

Hien Nguyen, PharmD, BCGP

Faculty

Hien received her Doctor of Pharmacy degree from the Philadelphia College of Pharmacy, University of the Sciences. She completed a PGY-1 pharmacy residency at Penn Medicine Lancaster General Health and a PGY-2 geriatrics and academia pharmacy residency at Mountain Area Health Education Center (MAHEC) and the University of North Carolina Eshelman School of Pharmacy. Hien returned to Lancaster General Health in July 2019 as an ambulatory pharmacist clinician. She is a board-certified geriatric pharmacist (BCGP) and works as a geriatrics pharmacy resource to the health system since joining Lancaster General Health Physicians Geriatrics in February 2020 as their clinical pharmacist. Her professional areas of interest include osteoporosis/bone health, de-prescribing/appropriate prescribing, and mentoring/precepting learners through our geriatrics fellowship and pharmacy residency programs.

Maria Vasiliadis, DO

Faculty

Dr. Vasiliadis received her medical degree from Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine. She completed her family medicine residency at Bryn Mawr Hospital, Bryn Mawr, PA, and a geriatric fellowship at Temple University Hospital, Philadelphia, PA. She has her Certificate of Additional Qualifications in Geriatrics.

Dr. Vasiliadis has more than ten years’ experience in Geriatric Medicine. She is involved in outpatient care, nursing home care, and serves in a consultant role on the inpatient Geriatric Consult Service at Lancaster General Health.
